Disney 2012 Halloween Merchandise arrives at Walt Disney World

Display 199x300 Disney 2012 Halloween Merchandise arrives at Walt Disney WorldThe spookiest time of the year is once again approaching, and Disney parks seem to be giving the Halloween Holiday some serious merchandising love this year.  As I strolled down Main Street USA at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom yesterday, a purple and orange display inside the Emporium caught my eye, and my steps seemed to just naturally turn toward the dim display.  Arriving in the air conditioning, I found a display piled high with the newest Halloween merchandise – complete with a gaggle of blue-shirted Disney middle management evaluating the newly revealed merchandise….and, thinking of you, I immediately started snapping photos.

A number of items are new this year…

Lollipops 300x199 Disney 2012 Halloween Merchandise arrives at Walt Disney World I had already seen the Disney Food Blog’s post on the Madam Leota lollipops in the parks, but a new set of sweet treats was on display.  The set of lollipops features all 3 of the Haunted Mansion’s Hitchhiking Ghosts.  I did not get a price on the sweet treats, but they certainly were charming!

Also new were a variety of home decoration items, all focused on the Haunted Mansion rather than the more typical fab-5 in costume I had seen in earlier years.  These items were immediate must-buys for me:

Tombstones 300x199 Disney 2012 Halloween Merchandise arrives at Walt Disney World

Haunted Mansion Tombstone set: 3 tombstones, each 4″high, $22.95

Calendar 199x300 Disney 2012 Halloween Merchandise arrives at Walt Disney World

Halloween Countdown Calendar featuring Minnie & Mickey $29.95

And, of course, there are the new tee shirts. This Halloween has brought a number of charming new designs, all visible in the gallery below, but again, the Haunted Mansion focus has brought a show-stopping tee shirt for 2012:

Halloween 2012 tee, featuring the Hatbox Ghost in the foreground $28.95

Rear of the Tee – with a great Haunted Mansion scene featuring Madame Leota & the singing busts

Featuring the Hatbox ghost is an interesting choice for Disney Halloween merchandise, since the character, beloved on Haunted Mansion fans, isn’t well known by many.  The Hatbox Ghost, a figure removed from the Haunted Mansion attic shortly after its debut, was supposed to have its head disappear and then re-appear inside a hatbox in its hand with each beat of the Bride’s heart.  The effect was impossible to time with the omnimover system and lighting, but the vanished figure became legendary.

That figure is rumored to be the center of Guillermo Del Toro’s promised Haunted Mansion film, revealed at 2010′s Comic Con, and since the film announcement has been appearing here and there, perhaps as a nod to the fans, perhaps as a promise of the film.

For those less interested in the mansion, however, there are many other delightful designs!  Take a look at the stylish hidden-Mickey spiderweb in the gallery below – it’s one of my favorites!

I know as an admitted Disney shopaholic my favorite part of a new Disney release (along with seeing the film of course) would have to be the new merchandise. While waiting for the June 22nd debut of Disney and Pixar’s highly anticipated film, Brave, Disney fans can get into this exciting story early with a wide variety of amazing products available from the Disney Store’s new Brave Collection.

Brave follows the Scottish tradition of epic tales depicting battles and legends as a Scottish Princess named Merida rebels against the traditional role inflicted on her. However, doing so only causes serious conflict in her kingdom. When she turns to a witch for help to improve her fate, Merida only makes the situation worse as the witch inflicts a terrible curse on Merida’s people. Now Merida must discover what bravery really means in order to save her kingdom from the curse before it is too late.

Disney’s new Brave Collection offers many different options of things to purchase that go along with the film. Some of my favorite items include:

The Brave Angus with Sound and Merida Doll Set ($39.50), the Classic 11” Merida Doll ($16.50), the 14” Brave Angus Plush Toy ($19.50), the 10 piece Deluxe Brave Figure Play Set ($19.50), and the 20” Merida Plush Doll ($19.50). Another item that will definitely be popular is the 16” Toddler Brave Merida Doll ($24.50). This collection also includes everything from costumes to Vinylmation to books, cups, cell phone covers, and more so there is truly something for everyone. If Brave follows the same pattern as Tangled (whose merchandise was also released before the movie came out in theaters) this collection will be going fast after everyone sees the film on June 22nd. Now is a great time to beat the rush and to get ready for the movie by going to your local Disney Store or disneystore.com to check out the new Brave Collection.

New Brave Merchandise Collection From the Disney StoreAnd, in an exciting twist, on June 4th the Disney Store announced the June 22nd release of a 17” Limited Edition Merida Doll on its facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/DisneyStore) to go along with the film’s debut in theaters. Ever since the last 17” Limited Edition Doll, Wedding Rapunzel, was announced to accompany the TV debut of the short film on March 23, 2012 there has been speculation and a lot of buzz about who would be the next 17” Limited Edition Doll. Many predicted Pocahontas would be next to accompany the release of parts I and II of the movie from the Disney vault on Blu-ray/DVD this summer. The next 17” LE doll predicted was Cinderella to go along with the Diamond Edition of Cinderella on Blu-ray/DVD that will be coming on October 2, 2012 and can be pre-ordered now on amazon.com and disneystore.com. Merida will be the first Disney 17” LE doll released with the films debut in theaters; the others have come out with Blu-ray/DVD’s or TV releases. In the past Disney has featured more than one 17” LE doll in one year though (some have even come out at the same time like the Rapunzel and Mother Gothel dolls) so we will have to stay tuned to find out if Pocahontas and/or Cinderella will also be available this year or not. The 17” Merida doll is also not available for pre-order like the Wedding Rapunzel was. It will be first come first served to get her from disneystore.com or a Disney Store location on June 22nd so make sure to check her out on the Disney Store’s Facebook page. I can’t wait and am counting down to see the movie and order the LE doll- it’s going to be an exciting, Disney-filled day!
