Disneyland will always have the distinction of being the realization of Walt’s great vision – the place where adults and children could come together and share something wondrous. Walt Disney World can never claim that special touch, that same sense of “Walt walked here.” But Florida’s parks do have a different distinction – they are the tangible remains of Walt’s great final vision. They represent the “fix” to the things Walt didn’t like about Disneyland and the remembrance of a great Utopian dream of a better tomorrow – the kind of dream that only a man like Walt Disney would even consider trying to turn into reality.
That dream, embodied by the Florida parks, has been celebrated a lot recently. In 2011, the Magic Kingdom celebrated its 40th anniversary. A few weeks ago, on Oct. 1, 2012, Epcot celebrated its 30th anniversary. And many of us celebrated with them – not just because of the abstract inspiration of Walt’s dream but because the Magic Kingdom and Epcot center are a part of our story too. Those anniversaries are, in a way, our anniversaries. We remember when – our first encounter with Mickey, our first visit to World Showcase, our first ride in the “golf ball” of Spaceship Earth.
Anniversaries, whether they celebrate marriages or theme parks ,are about celebrating a journey and all of the adventures we’ve had along the way. So in honor of the Florida parks’ anniversaries, we wanted to take a moment at Your Highway in the Sky to celebrate our journeys – our memories of the theme parks, from Magic Kingdom’s 40th to Epcot’s 30th…to your anniversary, no matter the number. And what better way to celebrate than to have a contest!
We’re calling this a 30-40-50 contest because our prize package includes a special Magic Kingdom 40th lanyard, an Epcot 30th anniversary limited edition pin, and a $50 Disney gift card.
Here’s how you win:
- Send a picture of your favorite memory of Walt Disney World to contact@yourhighwayinthesky.com
- Include a date/anniversary
- We’ll post that picture on a special board on Pinterest at http://pinterest.com/yhitsblog/walt-disney-world-memories/
- The picture that gets the most “Likes” will win the prize.
