Although Disney Pixar has hinted at the plot of its upcoming fairy tale film, details have been scarce. In a new trailer released in Japan, however, the speculated conflict between man and nature is explicitly spelled out with Merida violating the “Law of the Forest.” The trailer emphasizes the use of magic (perhaps a connection to the celtic idea of “wild magic”) and draws a clear line between the forest and civilization. It also reveals Merida’s wish…”to be free.”
The new trailer, subtitled in English below, provides a new window into Brave as more than a simplistic fairy tale. It promises to be a complex story of untamed and civilized, of the balance between rational and irrational. It also promises to return to themes that run deep in Pixar’s previous work – coming of age and family.
