Be a Character [Magical Blogorail]

blogorailgreen1 150x150 Be a Character [Magical Blogorail]Welcome to those of you joining me from Walt Disney World: It’s Not Just for Kids and those of you who have just hopped aboard. I am the Final stop on our Magical Blogorail. This month we are sharing memorable character experiences at Walt Disney World.

When I was a kid, nothing drove me more insane than lining up to take family photos. I didn’t mind the photos themselves and it wasn’t like I was “too cool” to take family photos, but the ritual of everybody standing in a row, looking in one direction, smiling awkwardly and taking a photo was something I dreaded each and every Disney trip. There was no magic in it and there was certainly no character. Over time…I tried to think of ways to amuse myself during these ritualistic family photographs. Eventually I developed my ultra cheesy motto: You Don’t Have to Be in Costume to Be a Character.

Do you think I’m just going to stand awkwardly in a photo while Peter Pan gets to do an awesome pose, stealing all the glory? No way. You’re in hundreds of pictures a day, Pan…but I’m only in this one. It’s my spotlight. I AM the character.

Ok…so I don’t exactly go that far, but the idea is…won’t it be more fun to look back on your photos if you have different poses in each one? Won’t the Memories Begin a little bit easier if your pictures stand out?

On a recent Disney stay, my girlfriend and I really took the Be a Character model to heart. Because we live so very close to the Magic Kingdom, we don’t often stay on Disney Property; however, for special occasions, we like to splurge a bit and stay a few nights. For her birthday/Valentine’s Day/Our [Dating] Anniversary (it falls on the same month – think of all the presents I have to buy!), we did just that and spent a few nights on property. We started our vacation at Animal Kingdom, extremely excited for what was to come, and began our Be a Character Adventure. Not only was it fun for us, but you could tell the characters were really getting into it. The photopass photographers would spend more time with us, generally, coming up with other fun ideas that we hadn’t thought of. Check out some of the photos:

So, as you can plainly see…imagination works the best when it’s set free. I mean…its a lot more fun and more memorable to do something besides the usual pose. Just don’t be shy! You’ll never see any of the people pointing and laughing at you ever again…unless you decide to post about it online. In which case…

If you have any particularly fun photos or exciting character memories, there is still time to enter our Make a Memory Giveaway. Follow the steps and you’ll be entered to win over $100 in Disney Merchandise, including a $50 Disney Gift Card! More information for that can be found right at this link: Make a Memory Giveaway
