Captain Cooks: The Gem of Poly [Magical Blogorail]

Welcome to those of you joining me from Walt Disney World: Not Just for Kids and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 2nd on our Magical Blogorail Green Loop. This week, we will be sharing our favorite resorts to visit.

Somehow, someway, almost every time I go to Magic Kingdom…I end up at the Polynesian Resort. I’ve talked before about my love affair with Ohana (especially for breakfast) and written about how Kona Cafe has certainly helped spark a love affair, but what really makes it a frequent stop for me is the often overlooked Captain Cook’s. Besides being the only other place on Disney Property where you can bless your taste buds with the enchanted nectar of the tiki gods that is the Dole Whip, Captain Cook’s is home to two of my favorite quick service food options at Walt Disney World: the “Hawaiian Style” Chicken Sandwich and the Pork Nachos. Mind you, I’m a man of simple tastes. I’ve never met a cheeseburger that I didn’t like, but never have I become so enthralled with a chicken sandwich.

May look a little gross, but its rather tasty

With tender chicken on a warm pineapple-coconut bun, pineapple salsa, melted cheddar cheese, and teriyaki sauce…Captain Cook’s Chicken Sandwich is greasy pineapple goodness that I’m always ready to have. It’s tasty, full of sweet flavor, and incredibly messy; however, it is not more messy than the Pork Nachos. The Pork Nachos, featuring Pulled Pork in BBQ sauce, more pineapple flavor, and the joy that is Polynesian Chips is the perfect complement to a Captain Cooks chow down. Great for sharing, the Pork Nachos can certainly feed the whole family. Anytime I’m looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of Magic Kingdom, Captain Cooks is a perfect impromptu stop that’s only a short boat or monorail ride away.

Heaven on Earth

Besides Captain Cook’s, of course…the Polynesian has just always been one of my favorite places to relax, whether or not I’m staying there. I can spend hours hanging out in the lobby or by the pool, chatting with friends, and enjoying Dole Whips. That’s why its my favorite resort to visit, not just to stay. Throw in a Sports Bar and I’d probably never leave. [Editors Note: Totally kidding, I don't want a Sports Bar - talk about destroying theme!]
