The Muppets Get Sequel

Walter proud 300x262 The Muppets Get Sequel

After The Muppets earned nearly 150 million dollars worldwide and was the number one DVD/BluRay, Disney and fans have been clamoring for a sequel. It was recently announced that a new film has been green-lit, likely for a 2013 release.

However, the new Muppets film will have to make do without Jason Segel. Not only did Jason Segel star in the 2011 release, he was an executive producer who spearheaded the campaign to get the Muppets back on the big screen and even co-wrote the script.

“All I wanted to do was to set the stage for them to do whatever they wanted. I’m sure I’ll return in some capacity here and there, but that was half a decade of my life. Five years of hard work. I’m ready for a little puppet break.”

While Jason Segel and Amy Adams won’t appear except for a possible quick cameo, Walter will be an integral part of the Muppets.

Which celebrities would you like to see in the new one? Are there any stars they should bring back?

“Thanks to creative genius Jim Henson and these extraordinary puppeteers, the Muppets are truly worldwide icons and Hollywood stars,” said Ross. “They are a treasured part of the Disney family, and we’re thrilled to see them join so many other luminaries on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.”

This was the first star received by the Muppets as a whole. Previously, Kermit was given his own star in 2002 and Jim Henson was honored posthumously in 1991. However, if you can’t make it to Hollywood, California, you can see Kermit and Jim Henson’s handprints and signatures at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The two made their impression in concrete on August 28, 1989. Henson died just nine months later.

The Muppets have another reason to celebrate this week as their film was the number one selling DVD and BluRay. While Disney pushes the DVD/BluRay combo sets, they only made up 52% of the total sales.

When asked about the new film and Disney’s ownership, Brian Henson said, “The film has been terrific for the Muppets, and the Disney Company has just done a wonderful job promoting the film and getting it out there. It’s good to see the whole world getting back behind the Muppets.”
